US Labor Day is the first Monday of September (September 1โ7). It marks the unofficial end of summer: most public pools close, many school districts start the next day, and the NFL season opens the following Thursday. Canada observes Labour Day on the same date; most other countries use May 1.
Retail-wise it is the last big appliance and mattress sale before Black Friday, and the week after is when summer inventory (grills, patio furniture, air conditioners) hits clearance. Flights on the Friday before are among the most expensive of the late summer.
