Read the detail
US Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, fixed by federal law in 1941, so it moves between November 22 and 28. Canada's Thanksgiving is a different holiday on the second Monday of October. The TSA names the Tuesday and Wednesday before and the Sunday after as the busiest travel days of the period, and it was that Sunday, not the Wednesday, that set the agency's all-time record in 2024.
A frozen turkey needs about 24 hours of fridge thawing per 4–5 pounds, so a 16-pound bird should come out of the freezer the Sunday before. Grocery stores are open Thanksgiving morning but most close by early afternoon; nearly all are closed the evening.
