About Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving)
Chuseok is Korea's harvest festival on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, the night of the full moon, and falls between mid-September and early October. Like Seollal it is a three-day public holiday with substitute days, and in some years it joins with National Foundation Day (October 3) or Hangul Day (October 9) into a week-long break.
It is the single heaviest travel period in Korea: tens of millions of trips over a few days, with the outbound peak on the morning before the holiday. Gift-set sales (fruit, beef, spam) start about three weeks ahead, and department stores discount unsold sets the day after.
